Trip Extension Overview

Located deep within the heart of an enchanting Ecuadorian cloud forest, Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve is a private protected area spanning 1,000 acres of endangered sub tropical cloud forest habitat. An area of great biodiversity, Bellavista is home to more than 300 species of birds, including the iconic paddle-tailed hummingbird and the Andean toucan, mammals, frogs, rare insects, and an impressive variety of orchids. A trip to Bellavista Cloud Forest offers an opportunity to support the conservation and sustainable development of the region. Research, education and biodiversity conservation projects are partially funded by tourism, which also provides employment for local communities. While staying at Bellavista Cloud Forest, you’ll be enamored by the beautiful scenery as you walk along the trails with your naturalist guide, or on your own following the many self-guided paths. You can also combine your visit with other natural sanctuaries in the area perfect for bird watching, visit a butterfly museum, take a chocolate tour and visit a panela factory, or get your adrenaline pumping with zip lining and river tubing. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll fall in love with the cloud forests of Ecuador!

Depart from your Quito hotel at 06:15 AM and have breakfast at the lodge. You have plenty of time to relax and explore the natural wonder of this magical place. Bellavista offers miles of trails ranging from easy to truly adventurous. Hikes last anywhere from thirty minutes to over three hours. Before lunch, you’ll take a guided walk with a naturalist who will fascinate you with their knowledge of cloud forest ecology. For those who wish to explore on their own, all trails are clearly marked, including an informative self-guided trail. The atmosphere at the lodge is very relaxed and tranquil. In between activities, you will feel at ease as you soak in the nature beauty of this special place. After dinner, retire you your comfortable accommodations. For those interested in nocturnal wildlife, guides will be on the look out for the Olinguito, a unique mammal in the racoon family, as well as other interesting night time activity.  (B,L,D)

LOOKING FOR ADVENTURE?  We can arrange zip lining and river tubing excursions, including a chocolate experience, a coffee tour, and a visit to a butterfly center. These tours are available for an additional cost and we recommend booking in advance. Please inquire for details.
