Costa Rica Adventure

|

Meet your driver at the San Jose International Airport to head to Bajos del Toro, about an hour and a half away. Bajos del Toro is located on the less explored western skirts of the Poas Volcano and is a thriving rural community, rich in lively traditions, unique landscapes, and spellbinding flora and fauna. Its low-key vibe and non-touristy character set the perfect stage for Costa Ricas adventurous nature and welcoming character. Fun cultural sessions, heart-pounding thrills, and leisurely eco-discovery expeditions let visitors lose themselves in engaging experiences that are unmistakably Costa Rican. Your driver will take you directly to the hotel to check in and relax.

Today youll meet your driver in the lobby after breakfast to experience the magic of the rain forest at its best. Take a guided hike to Las Gemelas (The Twins) Waterfalls. These two stunning blue waterfalls are hidden deep in the rainforest, and feature hued raleigh-scatter reflections caused by the waters volcanic mineral content. Soak in their refreshingly cold natural pool, admire the surrounding lush vegetation and enjoy the impressive views of the nearby Poas Volcano. After the mornings adventures, youll return to the hotel and spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring on your own. (B)

Your driver will meet you after breakfast in the hotel lobby to begin your three-day, two-night experience at the Pacuare Lodge, located on the banks of the Pacuare River. The remaining last 4 miles to get to Pacuare Lodge will be done in a 4×4 vehicle. This remote, bumpy dirt road crosses through farmlands, pasturelands and patches of rainforest. Pacuare Lodge is a unique oasis nestled in a beautiful area of rainforest. Trees, providing privacy and serenity, surround its modern wooden bungalows with thatched palm roofs. The two-story open-air main lodge has a dining room on the first floor and relaxing chairs and hammocks in the second floor lounge. After a delicious lunch, you might try one of the lodges tours and activities included in your package: a zip line canopy tour, a guided jungle walk, a canyoning tour at El Tesoro Creek, the Cabecar Indigenous Hike or the Rural Experience Tour. You can also simply relax in the splendor of the rainforest before dinner. (B,L,D)

Wake up to bird songs and the soothing sound of the river nearby. Enjoy the many tour options available during your stay, and the homemade meals made in the dining room. (B,L,D)

Bring your luggage and meet your guide in the lobby after breakfast. You’ll enjoy a day full of river thrills before your trip to Puerto Viejo. On the river, you’ll pass through huge canyons lined with tall trees and dense vegetation. The thick undergrowth of this protected area provides shelter for a variety of tropical animals and birds, including rare and endangered species. Savor sandwiches, fruits and sweets along the water’s edge for lunch. At the river take-out, you can change into dry clothes before the taking a private car to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, a vibrant and friendly community on Costa Ricas southern Caribbean coast. After checking into your hotel, the rest of day is yours to relax and explore the beautiful Caribbean coastline. Swim, rent sea kayaks or stroll along the beach. (B,L)

Today, discover the fascinating marine life of Costa Rica on a guided snorkeling tour of one of the Caribbean’s largest coral reefs. Youll also have an opportunity to hike in this area later. This reef is located in the Cahuita National Park, along a beach lined with countless palm trees, lush vegetation, winding creeks and shining pools. After the tour, you’ll return to the hotel for a relaxing afternoon and evening. (B)

Spend a free day exploring and relaxing in Puerto Viejo. Wander through town, swim in the ocean and try the fresh seafood offered by local restaurants. (B)

Spend the morning relaxing in Puerto Viejo. At noon, your driver will meet you in the lobby for the trip back to San Jos to spend the night before your flight home. (B)

Your driver will take you to the International Airport to catch your flight home, ending your adventure with Southern Explorations. (B)
